Porter Creek Trail Runs

We have heard you and we, too, are hungry for a local (South Sound) holiday trail racing option. Porter Creek Trail Runs offers three (3) race distances (5K, 10-mile, 25K), a training group (for those interested), and an opportunity to show your holiday spirit in the great outdoors of the PNW. The event is low key, low cost. There *will* be yule logs hidden on each of the three courses (find one and win a prize)! Awards will be given to top 3 male/female finishers in each event. All runners will get a finishing ornament.

We can think of no better way to ring in the holiday season than on single track!

Space is limited. On-line registration closes on December 10. There will be DOR registration available on a first-come/first-served basis.  

The Course

Porter Creek Trail is outside of Elma, WA in an oft un/under-explored portion of Capitol State Forest. It originates in a fine little campground, complete with water falls, room to park and play! The trail is single track, rolling, and runnable. There is nothing sinister about this race (happy holidays!). Course maps. 

Important Race Day Information

Packet pick-up will begin at 7AM at the Porter Creek Campground. Please bring your emailed registration confirmation (on your phone is fine). All participants will need to sign a Dept. of Natural Resource & Race Waiver before receiving a bib. DOR registration will begin at 7AM at the Porter Creek Campground, as well. Aid stations are located at the 10-mile and 25K turn-around; there is no aid station on the 5K. We recommend runners bring hydration/nutrition to supplement aid station food (it's just a good safety practice, anyway). 

Sustainability committments: We love our environment and like for our events to tread lightly on it. We will not provide cups at aid stations. We will have ample water to refill your hydration packs and hand-helds. The finish area will be stocked with all sorts of yummy holiday foods and hot soup. We will not have disposable bowls/cups/plates. Please bring your own and our amazing volunteers will gladly fill you up with treats! Finally, carpooling is the right thing to do. Please carpool with your friends. Sustainability is the secret to our being able to enjoy these areas for generations to come.

The Training Group

Join us for an 8-week training group to help prepare you for the 10-mile or the 25K race event. Group meets on Tuesdays at 6PM for a strength/speed session and on Sundays for a long trail run. Guidance is provided to runners for the rest of the week. Discounts are available to participants on race nutrition/hydration, gear, and more. Training group registration includes race entry.
